Bhutto&#39s former bodyguard shot dead

Islamabad, July 22 (DPA) Unidentified assailants gunned down a senior bodyguard of Pakistan&#39s slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and her widower Asif Ali Zardari in the port city of Karachi on Tuesday, officials said.

Gunmen lying in wait attacked Khalid Shahenshah&#39s pick-up truck as he drove close to his residence in an upmarket neighbourhood of Karachi.

Shahenshah sustained multiple bullet wounds and died in a hospital, said Ejaz Durrani, a spokesman for Bhutto&#39s Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Television footage showed at least three bullet holes in the vehicle&#39s windshield.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which the party officials termed &#39a target killing.&#39

Shahenshah was among the bodyguards assigned to provide security cover to Zardari, who had taken over the reins of the PPP.

He was also part of a party security squad that was protecting Bhutto when she was killed in a suicide gun and bomb attack in the garrison town of Rawalpinidi Dec 27.
