Amjad Khan&#39s son

Mumbai, Nov 14 (IANS) Late actor Amjad Khan&#39s son Shadaab has quietly gone and completed his first directorial venture &#39Highway 203&#39, a thriller starring K.K. Menon and Perizaad Zorabian.

Shadaab, who debuted as a leading man opposite Rani Mukerji in &#39Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat&#39, has left his acting aspirations behind.

&#39What keenly interests me is scriptwriting. I have 20 scripts ready. In fact, one of them, &#39Sandhya&#39, was made with Jackie Shroff and Raveena Tandon in the lead. The film never got released, though its director Sangeeth Sivan has become belatedly successful with &#39Kyaa Kool Hai Hum&#39,&#39 Shadaab told IANS.

&#39Thrillers are my chosen genre. &#39Sandhya&#39, which I wrote, was one.

&#39And now I&#39ve directed one. My producer Prince Dendona and I were both keen on the title &#39The Accident&#39 since &#39Highway 203&#39 is centred on an accident,&#39 added Shadaab who played villain in J.P. Dutta&#39s &#39Refugee&#39. His father Amjad Khan had shot to fame as the villain Gabbar in &#39Sholay&#39.

The film, ready for release in February, was originally meant to feature Naseeruddin Shah and Tabu.

&#39Tabu showed great interest and then vanished without a trace! Shah one fine day got his secretary to inform me he isn&#39t doing the film, but that&#39s okay. The goodwill that my father generated died with him.

&#39I don&#39t expect anyone to be nice to me just because I&#39m my father&#39s son. No one can say I&#39ve made &#39Highhway 203&#39 on my father&#39s steam. I&#39m glad I got K.K. and Perizaad. K.K. is an astonishing actor and Perizaad, who plays a very bad aspiring actress, was a surprise.&#39

Arif Zakaria is also part of the cast.

&#39It isn&#39t a big film in terms of budget. But I wouldn&#39t like to call it a small film. I believe I&#39ve made a good film.&#39

Asked about his next film, he said: &#39Of course, it will be a thriller. I want to cast my friends Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Zayed Khan. They will all happily agree to be in my film. Zayed is a childhood friend. He can never say no to me.&#39

Talking about his marriage, Shadaab said that he has mellowed down ever since.

&#39Yeah, I&#39ve married Romona, a girl I knew in school and lost touch with. When her name came up for marriage, I immediately recognised her. I&#39m far more calm now,&#39 he puns with a laugh.
